Srinivasa Reddy Kandi: Reddit’s Search Overhaul Is Finally Paying Off

Reddit’s Search Overhaul Is Finally Paying Off:

After years of criticism over its weak search experience, Reddit is finally seeing strong results from its investment in search and AI-powered discovery tools. CEO Steve Huffman revealed that the platform has recorded a 30% year-over-year increase in weekly search users, signaling growing engagement with Reddit’s improved search features.

Huffman said search has become a major factor in attracting and retaining users. He highlighted strong growth in daily active users, weekly active users, and overall search queries, crediting the search team for significantly improving the experience. He also pointed to Reddit Answers — the company’s AI-assisted search feature — as becoming more deeply integrated into the platform.

Earlier this year, Reddit began testing AI-powered product placements within search results in the United States, further expanding its monetization strategy.

According to Huffman, nearly 40% of Reddit discussions are related to commercial topics, while 84% of shoppers report feeling more confident about purchases after researching products on Reddit.

The company closed the quarter with more than 493 million weekly active unique users, a 23% increase compared to last year, along with 126 million daily active unique users, up 17% year-over-year.

In the U.S., Reddit’s daily active user count rose 7% to 53.5 million, while international daily users climbed 26% to 73.3 million. The company says its long-term goal is to reach 1 billion daily users globally, including 100 million in the U.S.
